...Snow, Windy Conditions For Monday...

.A wintry mix of rain and snow will move in west of the
Mississippi River late tonight. This mix will then spread into
Wisconsin during the late morning and afternoon as a transition to
all snow occurs. The heaviest snows will fall Monday afternoon and
evening with accumulations of 4 to 8 inches expected. The highest
totals are currently expected to occur over southeast Minnesota,
but totals may yet change based on any shifts in the storm track.

It will also be very windy Monday with gusts of 35 to 45 mph
expected. This will likely create drifting and blowing snow that
will create additional travel problems. 

Be sure to monitor forecasts closely as travel impacts are 
expected, especially for the Monday evening commute.

southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa this morning switching 
over to all snow this afternoon. The snow will be heavy at times 
with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour expected. Also, east winds of
20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph will create areas of blowing 
and drifting snow causing additional travel impacts. The 
combination of heavy wet snow and strong winds may also bring down

Into Tonight...

.A light wintry mix has resulted in a few slick roads across
southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa this morning. Heavier snow 
will move into the area this afternoon and evening with rates of 
1 to 2 inches per hour expected. Look for the snow to move into 
southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa early to mid afternoon and
into western Wisconsin during mid afternoon to early
evening. This precipitation may begin as a mix before quickly
transitioning to snow.

Also, southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph will
create areas of blowing and drifting snow causing additional
travel impacts across open areas west of the Mississippi River.
The combination of heavy wet snow and strong winds may also bring
down small tree branches. The highest travel impact time from
this storm will be from noon today through midnight tonight. The

.Precipitation has been spreading northeast from far southwest 
Wisconsin through northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota this
afternoon, and will continue to move into western Wisconsin
through early evening. While some of the initial precipitation may
fall as a wintry mix, a quick transition to snow is expected. The
bulk of the accumulations will occur through the evening with snow
decreasing from the southwest this evening. Snow rates may exceed
1 inch per hour with visibility reduced to under 1/2 mile at times.
Difficult travel is expected for the evening commute. Gusty east

.At 530 PM CST, a band of moderate to heavy snow was located along
the Mississippi River Valley, moving north and east. Snowfall
rates over 1 inch per hour and near-whiteout conditions have been
reported with the heaviest snow. The bulk of snow accumulations 
will occur through the early evening hours, with snow decreasing 
from the southwest later this evening. 

Very difficult travel is expected this evening. Strong easterly

...Heavy Snow Still Impacting Parts Of Wisconsin...

.Heavy snow was still falling across portions of western and
central Wisconsin, generally along and north of Interstate 94.
Snowfall rates in the heavy snow remain around an inch an hour
with visibility reductions of a half mile or less.

This snow band will continue to shift north with the snow
decreasing from the southwest behind the band. The heaviest snows
are expected to be out of the area around midnight. Periodic light
snow will continue through the overnight and into Tuesday.

Travel will remain difficult with most roads completely snow
covered. The winds have decreased to the point that only some
minor drifting snow is still expected.

Main forecast concerns are on afternoon relative humidity values
then focus quickly turns to the arrival of precipitation tonight in
the form of rain and snow with impacts to travel expected early
Monday morning.

After some morning light rain/snow showers, Another breezy, mild,
and mainly dry day across the local  area as low pressure deepens
over the High Plains. Afternoon relative humidity values look to
drop into the upper 20s along and east of the Mississippi River
with the lowest values expected over central Wisconsin. Relative
humidity values could fall into the lower 20s if more sunshine
occurs. The combination of these lower relative humidity values
and breezy southeasterly winds could create fire weather concerns
in areas that are snow free and fuels are dry enough to burn.

Forecast models are a little slower in spreading precipitation
across the region bringing the bulk of it in the midnight to 6 am
timeframe. The initial precipitation type looks to be rain along and
west of the Mississippi River, switching over to snow to the
east. Then due to evaporative and dynamic cooling we will see a
switch over to mainly all snow by midday Monday for southeast
Minnesota, portions of northeast Iowa and southwest into central
Wisconsin.

Main forecast concerns  are on the increasing potential for heavy
snow across portions of the area with significant impacts to
travel looking more likely Monday into Tuesday.

The Winter Storm Watch has been expanded to include all of southeast
Minnesota, portions of northeast Iowa, and much of southwest into
central Wisconsin. Snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches look possible
across the areas Monday into Tuesday, with the bulk of this snowfall
occurring Monday afternoon into Monday evening. Warmer
temperatures in valley locations will likely knock down snow
totals by 1 to 2 inches so not everyone in the watch area will see
the higher amounts closer to the 6-8 inch range. The big driver
of higher or lower snow totals will be temperatures, which
currently we are forecasting evaporative cooling to take over and
drive temperatures into the lower 30s as perception moves in.
There are some signals in a few models that snow accumulations
could be higher in some areas but confidence on higher totals is
low based on surface temperatures and exact placement of the
heaviest snow band. At this time the highest impact time looks to
be from noon Monday through Midnight Monday with travel impact to
the Monday afternoon and evening commutes. Patchy to areas of
blowing and drifting snow can be expected Monday afternoon then
winds diminish late Monday evening as the low draws closer. Light
freezing rain cannot be ruled out over portions of southeast
Minnesota Monday morning but this appears to be more of a
rain/snow system.

Precipitation exits the area Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening
then cooler air moves back into the region. Plan on highs mainly in
the 20s and 30s Wednesday and Thursday with lows in the teens.
Chance for rain and snow return late in the week into the weekend.
Temperatures then look to warm a little for the weekend with
highs in the 30s to lower 40s.

Gusty east/southeast winds through the period as deep low pressure
starts lifting from the Plains toward the Upper Mississippi River
Valley region. Ceiling and visibility will be VFR through
tonight, but then MVFR clouds move into KRST by 14z along with
some light snow as the low approaches. Expect conditions to
rapidly deteriorate during Monday afternoon as snow and IFR
conditions overspread the area.

Continued snow melt will lead to river rises mainly north of
Interstate 90 today into tonight. Rain and snow is expected
across the region late tonight into Monday, switching over to all

of snow limiting the amount of runoff and river rises. The
greatest potential for a liquid precipitation type is mainly west

A mix of rain and snow is expected overnight, mainly west of the
Mississippi River.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect Monday and Monday night.

Snow is expected Monday through Tuesday, with the heaviest snows
falling from late Monday morning into Monday evening. Total snow
accumulations for Monday and Tuesday of 6 to 8 inches (locally
higher possible). These totals may change based on shifts in the
storm track. Some drifting and blowing snow possible in wind prone
areas. Anticipate difficult travel Monday including the evening
commute.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday

Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Monday into Tuesday.

A rain snow mix will fall Monday, changing over to snow Monday
night, and then persisting as mainly snow Tuesday. Snow
accumulations of 2 to 5 inches with localized amounts up to 6
inches are expected. These snowfall totals may change based on
shifts in the storm track. Travel will become slippery.
