* Until 215 AM EDT
* At 820 PM EDT, emergency management officials reported flooding
in many areas across smyth and western tazewell counties.
Numerous roads are currently being closed across Smyth county
as a result of excessive rainfall and flooding. Flooding of some
roads and structures has also been reported in western Tazewell
county. The public has also reported flooding in western Bland
county.
Rainfall of 3-4 inches has been common across this area during the
past two days...and additional rainfall of 1-3 inches is likely
during the next 24-36 hours.

Flooding has been reported on the Clinch River in Tazewell, Wolf Creek
near Rocky Gap, Walker Creek in Smyth County, including Hungry Mother
State Park, and the the Middle and North Fork of the Holston River in Smyth
County, as well as related tributaries, creeks, and streams.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 215 AM EDT FOR
SMYTH...TAZEWELL...SOUTHWESTERN BLAND AND WESTERN WYTHE COUNTIES...
At 953 PM EDT, local law enforcement reported flash flooding across
Smyth county resulting in the closure of several roads in the Marion
area, as well as other parts of the county. Numerous creeks and
streams across the county are out of their banks impacting roads and
some structures.
Excessive rainfall over the warned area will cause mud slides near
steep terrain. The mud slide can consist of rock, mud, vegetation
and other loose materials.
Two to four inches of rain have fallen across this area during the
past two days. Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches will be possible
during the next 24 to 36 hours.

* At 202 AM EDT, local law enforcement officials report that
several roads in Smyth County, and a few in Tazewell County
remain inundated with water and closed. While the heaviest
rainfall has now moved out of the warned area, additional
heavy rainfall is moving north into this area from northwest
North Carolina. Flash flooding remains a possibility, and
thus the flash flood warning has now been extended until
615 AM EDT Monday morning.
