...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY
AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Winter Storm
Watch, which is in effect from late tonight through Tuesday
afternoon. 

* LOCATION...The southern I-25 corridor of Huerfano and wester Las
  Animas counties including Walsenburg and Trinidad.  

* CAUSE AND TIMING...A Pacific storm system is expected to
  intensify as it moves into the Four Corners region tonight and
  across northern New Mexico on Tuesday. This will bring the
  potential for heavy snow to the region late tonight through
  Tuesday.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION...6 inches or more. 

* WIND...Northeast 15 to 30 mph. 

* IMPACT...Deteriorating travel conditions will be possible late
  tonight as snow levels drop. Roads may become slick, snowpacked
  and icy by Tuesday morning.

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Sunday)

Satellite images this afternoon were showing the upper low centered
over west central NM.  Radar has been showing bands of snow rotating
around the upper low into sern CO, and spotter reports indicate
moderate to heavy snow under these bands with quick accumulations of
one to three inches. Forecast models show that banded pcpn could
continue over the far southeast plains this evening, and possibly
another band moving into the eastern San Juan mtns, with mainly
scattered areas of snow elsewhere.  The upr trof wl continue its
eastward movement acrs NM and CO tonight. Later tonight it looks
like mainly just some isold areas of pcpn may be found acrs
southeast and south central CO and then by Sun morning it should
end. The first half of Sun looks dry, but then in the afternoon some
isold showers could develop ovr some of the mtns areas.  The central
mtns will likely have the best chances for some afternoon showers,
ahead of an approaching upr trof.  Temps on Sun wl be warmer, with
mainly 50s in the Upper Arkansas and San Luis Valleys and in the mid
50s to lower 60s acrs the southeast plains.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Saturday)

Sunday night through Wednesday...Models agree on dropping another
upper trough down out of the Pacific NW Sunday night, crossing the
Great Basin on Monday, then the Rockies on Tuesday. This system will
start to produce showers across the central mts Sunday night, then
as it nears on Monday widespread precipitation is then forecast for
all of the area. This will continue through Tuesday, then activity
will start to diminish quickly late Tuesday night, with the system
then expected to be east of Colorado on Wednesday. The best window
for accumulating snowfall across the higher terrain looks like
Monday night through Tuesday morning.

As for temps, a mild day is forecast for Mon with highs in the 50s
and 60s, then a cold front dropping south across the plains Tue
morning will drop max temps Tue into the 30s and 40s. Temps on Wed
will then attempt to climb into the 40s to near 50F as the system
pulls away.

Thursday through Saturday...In the wake of the exiting system,
temporary ridging over the Four Corners region Thu and Fri will give
way to westerly flow aloft on Sat. Conditions look to stay dry with
a warming trend into the weekend, with isolated showers returning to
the ContDvd on Sat. Look for temps in the 50s on Thu, warming into
the 60s to lower 70s for both Fri and Sat. Moore

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

A few bands of precipitation may continue moving through southern
Colorado this evening, with the potential for moderate to heavy
rain or snow, depending on the location of the band and the
temperatures. In areas close to the mountains, there will be the
potential for a quick one to three inches of snow accumulation
under these heavier bands. There will also be the possibility of
one to three inches of snow accumulation tonight over the
southwest mountains

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday

Another storm system is projected to move across Colorado Monday
night and Tuesday spreading snow into the Continental Divide
Monday afternoon, then into the southeast mountains and plains
Monday night and Tuesday. There is still considerable uncertainty
regarding the storm track and timing of its intensification as it
affects Colorado. However its origins from the northwest, bring
with it the potential for colder air and a quicker change over to
snow Monday evening as it drops through the southeast mountains
and plains. Snowfall amounts at this point are still too
uncertain to pin down as they will be highly dependent on storm
track. Please monitor the latest forecasts concerning this
developing storm.

possible through this evening over and near some of the mountain
