for the following rivers in Colorado...

  Arkansas River At La Junta affecting Otero County.

  Purgatoire River Near Las Animas affecting Bent County.

.Heavy rains have caused the Arkansas and Purgatoire rivers to rise
above flood stage.  Minor flooding is expected at La Junta and 
Las Animas.  

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety message... 

Stay away from the banks of rivers and streams. During a flood...
saturated banks can easily break off and fall into potentially 
deadly...fast flowing flood water.

* At  7:15 AM Thursday the stage was 10.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by early this afternoon and 
  continue to rise to near 12.0 feet by after midnight Saturday 
  morning.the river will fall below flood stage by late Saturday 
  evening.
* Impact...At 12.0 feet...Flood waters threaten Highway 194 east of La
  Junta.

* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 9.2 feet by early
  this afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage late this 
  evening.
* Impact...At 9.0 feet...Minor agricultural flooding occurs into low 
  lying areas along the river.
