15z/10am surface analysis shows 1002mb low over western Ohio with
a trailing trough axis extending westward into central Illinois.
While the bulk of the precipitation associated with this system
has ended, a few light showers/sprinkles linger across mainly
east-central Illinois this morning. Will therefore hold on to low
chance PoPs for showers across the east through early afternoon
before going dry across the board later in the day. Despite the
light precipitation coming to an end, skies will remain overcast
through the entire day. Recent pilot reports suggest the cloud
cover is approximately 3000ft thick, and with a strong inversion
in place, see no opportunity for any clearing through the
afternoon. Due to clouds and a brisk northerly breeze,
temperatures will struggle to rise much from current readings.
Have therefore adjusted afternoon highs down a couple of degrees
into the middle to upper 40s.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)
ISSUED AT 327 AM CDT Fri Mar 31 2017

5490 m upper low currently centered over southern IL continues to
produce scattered showers across central IL due to a component of
deformation N-NW of the low. As the system progresses eastward today
these lingering showers will come to an end gradually from west to
east across central IL. Expect dry conditions west of I-55 by noon,
and eastward to the IN state line by around 4 p.m. High pressure
will slowly move into the upper Midwest through Saturday
morning...however lingering low level moisture will keep skies
mostly cloudy through the night except possibly toward the NW
including Galesburg, Peoria, and Lacon where partial clearing may
take place closer to the approaching high.

Most of the forecast area will see much cooler temperatures today
compared with Thursday, except for areas mainly NW of the Illinois
River that were never reached by the warm sector of the outgoing
storm system Thursday. Todays highs are expected to range from 46 in
Galesburg and Bloomington to 51 in Lawrenceville. Breezy N-NW winds
will peak around 15 mph late in the morning and early
afternoon...diminishing  slowly overnight. Lows tonight will also be
quite a bit cooler ranging from around 34 in Galesburg and
Bloomington to 39 in Lawrenceville. Some potential for frost or a
light freeze north of I-72 however thinking the lingering light wind
and cloud cover will prevent this.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday)
ISSUED AT 327 AM CDT Fri Mar 31 2017

A very active weather pattern is still expected across the CWA for
the latter part of the weekend and through next week. Based on a
blend of the models, there appears to be 3 possible weather systems
that will effect the area Sun through Thur. Models look in
relatively good agreement with the first system, that should begin
to effect the area Sunday, mainly in western areas of the CWA. This
precip looks to be warm air advection precip or associated with an
inverted trough that extends north from the sfc low in the southern
plains. As the low pressure area lifts out of the plains Sunday
evening, precip will become more widespread and include a small
chance of thunder for after midnight. The sfc low is forecast to
move across southern IL on Mon and this will continue the showers
and thunderstorms across central IL east of the IL river. Showers
and small chance of thunderstorms will continue in the east for Mon
evening as the low pressure area lifts northeast into IN.

At this point, the models differ how many more weather systems are
expected to move across the area, as well as the timing of each.
Though dry weather is expected late Mon night and Tuesday morning,
the remainder of the forecast package has some form of pops in every
period through Thursday. Unfortunately, due to the many differences
in the models, forecast confidence in anyone solution is low. So, a
model blend forecast is a good option right now. There will be some
breaks and dry periods in the forecast, but trying to forecast them
right now with such model uncertainty is unwise.

Sat night looks will be on the cool side with light winds and clear
skies, but temps will warm back up again for the end of the weekend
and into next week. Above normal temps are expected for most of the
week with a cool down toward the end of the week possible.

Scattered showers to taper off from west to east through 18Z as
low pressure departs to the east today. IFR/LIFR cigs across the
area expected to slowly improve to MVFR by 16-20Z. MVFR cigs
expected to continue into tonight before possible improvement.
Winds NNW 10-15 kts with gusts to around 20 kts until 00Z then
decreasing overnight.
