* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Central Mitchell County in western North Carolina...
  Northeastern Yancey County in western North Carolina...

* Until 345 AM EDT

* At 1252 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to 
  thunderstorms. This may cause minor to moderate flooding in the 
  warning area.
  Two to three inches of rain have fallen over the past 2 hours.
  An additional inch of rain is possible over the next 30 minutes.

* The following streams may experience minor to moderate flooding: 
  Little Rock Creek, Cane Creek, North Toe River, Brush Creek, Mine 
  Creek, Rose Creek, Nolichucky River, Pigeonroost Creek, and White 
  Oak Creek.

* The following streamgauges may experience minor flooding: 
  Cane Creek at Bakersville.
  North Toe River between Plumtree and Frank.

* Some flood-prone roadways may be impacted, including:  
  Whitson Branch Road at North Toe River.
  Dale Hill Road at Cane Creek 
  Polly Hollow Rd at North Toe River.
  Pigeon Roost Rd at North Toe River.

* Some locations that may experience flooding include...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, as well as farmland, drainages,
and other low-lying areas.

In hilly and mountainous terrain, there are hundreds of low-water
crossings which can be dangerous in heavy rain. Low-water crossings
can be submerged by flood waters quickly and without warning. Never
attempt to travel across flooded crossings. Find an alternate route.
It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles
away.

When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides
flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 345 AM EDT FOR
CENTRAL MITCHELL AND NORTHEASTERN YANCEY COUNTIES...

* At 216 AM EDT, local law enforcement reported flash flooding in the 
  Bakersville area. Two to three inches of rain have fallen over the 
  past 3 hours.  Additional rainfall will be light and will not
  exacerbate ongoing flooding, but runoff will continue for at
  least the next 1-2 hours and additional flooding is likely.

* Mitchell County 911 is reporting Cane Creek and White Oak Creek 
  is out of its banks.  White Oak Creek is flooding Buchanan Dr. and
  White Oak Rd. and is approaching at least one residence on 
  Buchanan Dr.  Additional reports are likely.

* The following streams may experience minor to moderate flooding: 
  White Oak Creek, Little Rock Creek, Cane Creek, North Toe River, 
  Brush Creek, Mine Creek, Rose Creek, Nolichucky River, 
  Pigeonroost Creek, and White Oak Creek.

* The following streamgauge has exceeded Action Stage:      
  Cane Creek near Bakersville.
  Current Stage: 5.30 feet.
  Action Stage: 4.50 feet.
  Minor Flood Stage: 6.0 feet.
  Forecasted Crest: Near 6.0 feet. 
  Impacts. At 6.0 feet, roads in Bakersville will be flooded near
  Cane Creek.  Cane Creek may be flooding Helen's Restaurant on
  Highway 226.

* Some flood-prone roadways may be impacted, including:  
  Whitson Branch Road at North Toe River.
  Dale Hill Road at Cane Creek 
  Polly Hollow Rd at North Toe River.
  Pigeon Roost Rd at North Toe River.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Bakersville, Poplar, Bandana and Ramseytown.
