Winds and wind chills remain the dominant story
through Wednesday night as the coldest air mass of the season
continues in residence over the region. A tight pressure
gradient between low pressure in the Canadian Maritimes and a
high in the Midwestern US will remain in place. H925 winds will
continue at 30 kts or greater on Wednesday and the mixing layer
will be deep enough to bring these winds to the surface. The
Wind Chill Advisory will be maintained all day in northern zones
and extended through Wednesday night. The advisory will be
expanded southward on Wednesday night to the coast. After all of
the blowing snow on Tuesday, conditions won't be as favorable
for blowing snow on Wednesday, but it will continue in the open
farmland of Aroostook County. Will include patchy blowing snow
in these northern zones.
An interesting overrunning situation will occur later today in
northern zones as warmer air aloft actually advects from
Labrador and northern Quebec. These setups tend to occur once or
twice each winter during Arctic outbreaks. The limited moisture
with this warming is above H850 and will tend to dissipate as
it reaches into northern zones. H850 temperatures will warm from
around minus 20 to 25C to the minus 10 to 15C range by late
Wednesday night. The overrunning promises to bring less than an
inch of snow in the Saint John Valley by Thursday morning with
lesser amounts further south towards Presque Isle. The cold air
at the surface will remain entrenched under a steep inversion as
there's no mechanism to drive it out.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
An area of moisture rotating around low pressure near Labrador
will bring a chance of light snow or snow showers to mostly
eastern portions of the forecast area early Thursday. A Wind
Chill Advisory is also in effect for the entire forecast area
Thursday morning. Otherwise, expect mostly/partly cloudy skies
across the region Thursday morning, with partly sunny skies
during the afternoon. Surface high pressure will build toward
the region Thursday night into Friday. An upper level
disturbance will approach from the west later Friday with
increasing clouds, along with a slight chance of afternoon snow
showers across northwest portions of the forecast area. The
disturbance will cross the region Friday night with mostly
cloudy skies along with a slight chance of snow showers.
Temperatures will remain at much below normal levels
Thursday/Friday.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Low pressure should intensify and track east of the area
Saturday into Sunday. Have kept a chance of snow along the
Downeast coast later Saturday, with a slight chance of snow
across the remainder of the region. Based on the expected track
at this time, do not expect significant impacts across the
region. However, uncertainty still exists and a more westward
track could increase snow chances. The low should exit across
the maritimes Sunday with partly cloudy skies along with a
slight chance of snow showers. The cold air will be reinforced
in the wake of the low with a cold front/trof crossing the
region Monday. Expect partly cloudy skies Monday along with a
slight chance of snow showers across mostly the north and
mountains. Generally expect partly cloudy skies Tuesday, with
still a slight chance of snow showers across the north and
mountains. Temperatures will remain at much below normal levels
Saturday through Tuesday.

NEAR TERM: Gusty west winds up to 30 mph will cause a few vis
restrictions north of HUL today, but much less so than
yesterday. Light snow will cause MVFR tempo IFR vis north of PQI
by late evening and through the night.
SHORT TERM: Occasional MVFR/IFR conditions are possible across
the region early Thursday. Generally expect VFR conditions across
the region later Thursday through much of Friday, though MVFR
conditions could begin to develop across northern areas later
Friday. Occasional MVFR conditions are possible across the
entire region Friday night. Conditions Saturday will be
dependent on the eventual track of low pressure. VFR/MVFR
conditions are expected across the region Saturday, with
possibly lower conditions toward the Downeast coast. Occasional

with continued SCA conditions for the intracoastal waters.
Freezing spray is possible, but with coastal water temperatures

morning. Otherwise, small craft advisory conditions are
expected Thursday through Thursday night. Conditions are then
