Scattered showers will continue across the eastern Midlands through early afternoon then drier air will slowly filter into the area. A cold front will move through the region Wednesday. Temperatures will be well below normal this weekend as a modified Arctic air mass settles over the area. As low pressure develops in the Gulf of Mexico...winter weather will be possible over the region late Friday and Saturday. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Showers shifting east across the E/SE FA. Rainfall rates have decreased as drier air aloft moves in. Allowed Flash Flood Watch for the CSRA to expire at 8am. Will expect the rain area to exit our FA by midday. Warm front currently stretched across the N FA, will shift to the north today, as a weak cold front to the west approaches and moves through this afternoon and evening. Winds will increae out of the west today ahead of the front with above normal temps expected. Only weak cool/dry advection expected tonight behind the weak front. && .SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Upper level trough and cold front will push through the forecast area Wednesday morning allowing cooler and drier air to overtake the region Wednesday afternoon. Model soundings indicate some low level moisture with fropa...however with westerly flow over the mountains expect some downsloping and drying which will prevent rain. High pressure will be over the area Wednesday night with the flow returning to southerly on Thursday afternoon. This will again result in increasing clouds with no rain chance as the column remains fairly dry. High temperatures Wednesday will be in the lower to mid 60s with upper 40s to mid 50s on Thursday. Low temperatures Wednesday night will be in the upper 30s to low 40s. && .LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/... Confidence in the long term period remains low on details but the 00z GFS and ECMWF are in better agreement with a potential winter storm over the Southeastern States. However significant timing issues remain. Both models show an amplified upper trough over the eastern CONUS into the weekend with a modified Arctic air mass over the area. Temperatures likely well below normal over the weekend. Confidence high on that point. Moisture streaming southeast from the Intermountain West and Great Plains to the lower Mississippi Valley by late Friday. Low pressure developing in the Gulf of Mexico tracking northeast across Florida...possibly a favorable storm track for winter weather. Cold air appears in place Saturday and the predominate precip type is snow given partial thickness and sounding profiles. Raised pops to chance Friday night and Saturday with potential for accumulating snow during a portion of the period.
