Dry and pleasant weather Monday will quickly be replaced by a cold
and soaking rain later Monday night into Tuesday. A brief break in
the action expected Wednesday into early Thursday, but another heavy
rain event is possible later Thursday into Friday.

Only a few last holdouts along the immediate SE MA coast,
predominantly Plymouth CO and Cape Cod within a modest inverted
trof and trapped moisture beneath a building subsidence
inversion. The convergence line along the trof will continue to
drift E allowing remnant flurries/drizzle to dissipate over the
next couple of hours. POPs are now reflective of this thinking.
Otherwise, temps hold near or slightly below freezing across
much of the region. Will still need to watch for a few patches
of black ice where todays RA/SN/PL melt leaves roadways wet.

Previous discussion...
Elsewhere drying trend follows along with diminishing winds. However
probably won't see clearing skies as another upstream short wave
zips across the area yielding some cloudiness. Temps overnight will
fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s, especially across the high
terrain where fresh new snowcover exist. Any standing water will
refreeze overnight into early Sunday morning so something travelers

should allow for a good night or radiational cooling. This should
allow low temps to drop into the 20s to lower 30s Sun night. Plenty
of strong April sunshine should allow highs to recover well into the
50s on Mon, but weak gradient may result in sea breezes and
localized cooler conditions.
Monday night and Tuesday...
Clouds will be on the increase Monday evening ahead of a strong
shortwave/low pressure approaching from the west. Timing still
uncertain but appears we are in store for a cold/soaking rain Mon
night/Tue. GEFS showing PWATS and 850 MB LLJ 2+ standard deviations
above normal. GEFS/EPS ensembles also signaling decent probs of 1+
inches of rain and low probs of 2+ inches. System does appear
fairly progressive, but if we realize the higher amounts may see
some minor river flooding given the heavy rain that fell with this
storm. Lastly, some elevated instability around so a low risk for a
rumble or two of thunder.
Temps may remain in the 30s to near 40 across the interior given
potential secondary low pressure near the south coast, while the
coastal plain may reach into the 40s to near 50. Risk of wintry
precipitation is very low at this point, but can not rule out a low
risk for a brief period of freezing rain at the onset along the east
slopes of the Berks.
Wednesday...
Weak ridge of transient high pressure build back across the region
Wednesday. Highs probably recover into the 50s across much of the
area.
Thursday and Friday...
Another good potential for a significant rain event sometime later
Thu into Fri. Vigorous closed upper level low approaching from the
west will result in strong dynamics/forcing and risk for a heavy
rain event. In fact, the overall closed nature of the upper level
storm will bring even a higher risk than the late Mon night/Tue
event. Still a long ways out, but something will have to watch
closely along with the rivers.
Saturday...
Upper trough may remains over the region, so maybe rather cool with
some scattered showers.

headline criteria, but seas will remain at small craft levels across
our eastern outer-waters from left over swell.
Tuesday...Moderate confidence. Seas and winds will increase as
southerly low level jet develops ahead of approaching low pressure.
Small craft wind gusts are expected and perhaps brief marginal gale
force wind gusts, but inversion over the cold ocean will limit
mixing potential.
Tuesday night and Wednesday...Moderate confidence. A period of
northwest small craft wind gusts and seas follow departing low
pressure late Tue night into part of Wed.
Thursday...Moderate confidence. Quiet early, but seas and winds
