  early this evening with localized 2"+ amounts possible. Recent 
  rainfall has caused significant rises in area rivers and 
  streams. This will likely result in some minor river and stream 
  flooding developing later today into Friday.

  drainage flooding with heightened concerned during the evening

The Flood Watch for portions of northern Connecticut,
Massachusetts, and Rhode Island has been cancelled. 

Our most recent heavy rain event ended last evening. Several of 
our rivers are in minor flood or forecast to go into minor 
flooding. Most of these rivers are currently under warnings, so 
there is no need to continue the Flood Watch as additional heavy 
rain is not expected. Therefore, the Flood Watch has been 
cancelled.

.SYNOPSIS...
Scattered showers, along with areas of drizzle and fog, will
persist later this afternoon and evening with a few embedded
thunderstorms possible. Weak high pressure will cross the region
on Wednesday. Another potent low pressure system will move up
the eastern seaboard, bringing another soaking rain to the
region. Scattered showers will linger Friday into early
Saturday. High pressure will bring drier conditions Saturday
night through Monday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Minopr tweaks to the forecast this afternoon to reflect observed
trends. Southeast winds were diminishing. Light rain was most
prevalent across eastern MA. More showers were already moving
into western MA and northern CT early this afternoon.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM WEDNESDAY/...
Tonight...

Scattered showers and a few embedded thunderstorms will remain
possible this evening with vigorous shortwave/cold pool aloft
crossing the region. Areas of drizzle also possible with moist low
level flow. While precipitation chances will diminish after
midnight, areas of low clouds and patchy fog will likely persist
given moist low levels beneath inversion.  Low temps generally will
be in the upper 30s to the lower 40s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Overview...

Active weather pattern remains in place with progressive mid
and upper level steering currents.

High pressure at the surface and aloft will cross New England
late Wednesday and Wednesday night.

Another deepening H5 long wave trough digs from the western
Great Lakes to near the central Gulf of Mexico coast by Thursday
morning. Noting good tropical feed up the east coast, so looks
like another soaking rain will push across the region as
deepening surface low moves across NY state into northern New
England Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. The H5 low cuts
off as well, so this will slowly move NE, with scattered showers
lingering especially across inland areas through late this
week.

The surface low should move into the Maritimes during Saturday,
with transition to drier conditions. H5 long wave ridge builds
across the Great Lakes to Hudson Bay by Sunday morning, with
surface ridge also working eastward. Should see drier conditions
and more seasonable temperatures late this weekend into early
next week.

Details...

Wednesday...

Weak high pressure ridges down the east coast during the day
Wednesday on dry north to northeast winds especially along the
east coast. Winds will gust up to around 25-30 mph early, then
will diminish during the afternoon.

Clouds will linger through most of the day, especially near and
north of the Mass Pike through the day, then will return Wed
night as next system begins to approach. Winds will also shift
to E-NE by Wed night. Should start to see leading edge of light
rain approach after midnight Wed night as next system
approaches.

Daytime highs will range from the mid-upper 40s along the immediate
E coast and higher inland terrain to the mid-upper 50s across the
mid and lower CT valley into western RI.  Overnight lows should
remain above freezing, bottoming out in the mid to upper 30s.

Thursday...

Strengthening low pres over the Great Lakes and cutoff H5 will
slowly cross into NY state Thu, then slowly sliding NE into N
VT/NH Thu night. Excellent moisture transport up the eastern
seaboard with PWATs increasing to 1 to 1.4 inches during the
day, highest across N CT/RI/SE Mass by Thu evening. Very strong
low level jet passes across the region late Thu/Thu night, up to
60-65 kt at H85, but inverted lower layers will make it tough
to mix down. However, also noting favorable instability for
possible convection, with total totals reaching the lower 50s,
TQ values in the lower teens and K indices in the lower 30s. So,
could see isold thunder Thu afternoon through around midnight
Thu night, which might help mix down some of those strong winds
aloft. Have mentioned slight chance in the forecast. Warm front
should move across the region around or after midnight, so dry
slot may start to work NE. Precip should become spotty after the
front passes.

Big issue this forecast period will be another dousing of rain
for the region. Based on blend of 00Z models, have QPF amounts
on order of 1 to 1.5 inches, highest across W RI/N CT into the E
slopes of the Berkshires. Could see locally higher amounts in
any thunderstorms as well. Have mentioned potential of rising
river levels across several basins during this timeframe in the
hydro section.

Temps will be chilly, especially across N Mass with highs only
in the lower-mid 40s, ranging to around 50 along the S coast.

Friday-Saturday...

SW winds will remain in place through most of Friday, depending
upon the timing of the low pressure passing across the region.
Most of the moisture with and behind the associated cold front
looks to remain across the interior, then will push NE into
northern New England Fri night as the front pushes across. Gusty
SW winds will continue along the coast during the day, but will
diminish as the front passes and winds shift to W Fri night.

Precip should finally push NE out of the region Sat morning.
However, H5 long wave trough will linger through the day, so
clouds look to linger through the day then will dissipate Sat
night.

Sunday through Monday...

Long wave ridge N-S elongated surface high will slowly push to
the eastern seaboard Sunday, then settles off the coast on
Monday. Expect dry conditions and moderating temperatures.

Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.

moderate confidence in timings. IFR to MVFR cigs and vsbys.
Local LIFR across some of the higher terrain. Low risk of TSRA
toward the south coast through this evening. Areas of fog

more patchy farther north, with more MVFR vsbys there.

should push offshore, but MVFR CIGS linger across the interior
into the afternoon, especially the higher terrain. VFR VSBYS
expected. N winds may gust up to 20-25 kt along E coastal areas
early, then should diminish.

LIFR conditions in locally heavy rain Thu. Isold TSRA possible
Thu afternoon/early Thu night. Conditions may slowly improve
after 06Z Fri across portions of the S coast. E-SE winds gusting
to 25-35 kt, highest along the immediate coast Thu

Friday...Moderate confidence.
May see lingering MVFR conditions across interior in scattered
light rain/showers. Conditions may slowly improve to VFR after
midnight Fri night along S coastal areas. SW winds gusting to
25-30 kt along the immediate coast during the day, diminishing

Saturday...Low to moderate confidence.
Leftover light rain and/or showers end Sat morning, but clouds
linger. Conditions should improve from MVFR to VFR from S-N

Made some changes to Gale Warnings across the nearshore waters
early this afternoon. Winds there were below glae force, so
replaced with Small Craft Advisories. Expecting this to be the
trend through this afternoon.

Low risk of thunderstorms across the southern coastal waters
into this evening.

Tonight...Winds will have diminished by evening as low level
jet will have moved east of the region. However, small craft
seas from left over swell will persist. Areas of fog, showers
and a risk for a few embedded thunderstorms will reduce vsbys
at times.

Outlook /Wednesday through Saturday/...

Wednesday...High confidence.
N-NE winds gusting to 20-25 kt on the eastern waters early,
then diminish but remain N-NE, with light N-NW winds on the
southern waters. Winds shift to E on all waters during Wed
night, with gusts increasing to around 25 kt after midnight on
the southern outer waters. With persistent onshore flow, seas
will remain at or above 5 ft on the open waters.

Thursday...Moderate confidence.
Persistent E-SE winds will increase during Thu, then shift to S
Thu night. Expect gusts up to 30-35 kt, highest on the outer
waters where gales are likely. Seas build up to 6-10 ft, highest
on the southern outer waters by Thu night. Reduced visibilities
in rain and fog. Isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Friday...Moderate confidence.
S-SW winds gusting up to 25-30 kt during the day, slowly
diminishing Fri night. Seas remaining at 6-10 ft, highest on
the southern outer waters. Winds and seas will slowly diminish
after midnight as winds shift to W. May see briefly reduced
visibilities during the day in patchy light rain.

Saturday...Moderate to high confidence.
W-NW winds gusting up to 20 kt. Seas remaining at or above 5 ft
across the outer waters, slowly subsiding from north to south
Sat night.

.HYDROLOGY...
The Taunton River at Bridgewater is expected to remain in flood
for much of the work week given the expected additional
rainfall. Therefore, a flood warning remains in effect.

As for the event today, widespread rainfall amounts of 0.50 to
1.50 inches are expected. The heaviest of the rain is expected
to occur south of the MA Turnpike, which may lead to typical
poor drainage street flooding but no major problems are
expected. However, some of our mesoscale guidance indicates
there could be a very localized band of heavy rain near the
south coast perhaps impacting portions of RI. If occurs, will
have to watch the the potential for minor River Flooding across
the Pawtuxet at Cranston and Pawcatuck River at Westerly which
are fast responders. We did not issue a river flood watch at
this time for those two locations given lack of confidence on if
and where this band of localized heavy rain will setup.
Nonetheless, something will have to consider if confidence
grows.

A second weather system will push toward the region on
Thursday. With another surge of tropical moisture working up the
eastern seaboard with this approaching system, there is the
potential of another widespread 1 to 1.5 inches of rainfall,
which may fall heavily at times from midday Thursday into early
Thursday night. There may be locally higher rainfall amounts,
especially if any thunderstorms develop Thursday afternoon and
evening. Since this will be the third rain event in a week,
there is the potential for a few additional rivers and streams
to reach minor flood stage. Will continue to monitor Thursday's
QPF amounts for potential flooding concerns and possible flood
watches.
