The National Weather Service in Albany has cancelled the Wind
Advisory which was in effect for the eastern Mohawk Valley, the 
Schoharie Valley, Helderbergs, the Greater Capital Region, Lake 
George Saratoga region, mid Hudson Valley, Taconics, eastern 
Catskills, Berkshires, southern Vermont and Litchfield County 
Connecticut.

Although it will remain breezy this evening, with some wind gusts
possibly still reaching 30 to 40 mph, the threat for stronger wind
gusts, and associated minor property damage has ended. Therefore,
the wind advisory for much of eastern New York and adjacent
western New England has been cancelled.

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will be over New York and New England overnight
with mainly clear, cold, and dry conditions. A cold front
approaching from Canada will bring rain and snow showers Thursday
night, with a much colder air mass building in late Thursday
night into Friday. Gusty northwest winds will make it feel quite
brisk and cold. High pressure will then build back in by Saturday,
with well below normal temperatures, but less windy conditions.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
As of 1206 AM EST...High pressure continues to build in over NY
and New England with clear/mostly clear skies and calm winds.
Tempertures have already dropped into the 20s across much of the
area as of Midnight. An ideal radiational cooling environment
is setting up. Our 00Z KALY sounding is very dry with a PWAT of
0.16". A few clouds are possible south and west of the Capital
Region towards daybreak, as the sfc anticyclone drifts offshore.
Some very minor changes to sky cover and hourly
T/TD/RH/Apparent Temp trends based on observations. Lows tonight
will be in teens over the southern Adirondacks, Lake George
Saratoga Region, and southern VT, and lower to mid 20s from the
Capital Region south and east.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Thursday, sunshine to start the day, before clouds increase
during the afternoon, as low clouds developing across portions
of central/eastern PA and south central NYS begin expanding
northward, while high/mid level clouds increase from the west.
It is quite possible that skies become mainly cloudy for the
afternoon hours across the eastern Catskills/Schoharie Valley,
and perhaps areas near and south/east of the Capital District.
After the cold start, temps may be slow to rise, especially as
clouds increase. Have sided with the cooler MET MOS guidance for
highs, with mainly 45-50 expected in valleys, and 40-45 across
higher terrain. Some patchy drizzle/light showers could develop
later in the afternoon across portions of the eastern Catskills.

Thursday night, two cold front will be crossing the region. The
initial front should move fairly quickly from NW to SE toward
or just after midnight. This boundary will likely be accompanied
by a line of rain/snow showers in valleys, and snow showers or
squalls across higher terrain, especially areas west of the
Hudson Valley. A quick coating to an inch of snow could occur in
these higher terrain areas, especially across the western
Adirondacks. In addition, with a strong wind field aloft
developing, any taller convective elements could draw stronger
winds from aloft down to the surface, enhanced by rapid wet bulb
cooling processes. Some BUFKIT soundings suggest wind gusts of
40+ KT possible, so there is a possibility that a relatively
short fused wind advisory may need to be issued, especially for
portions of the Mohawk Valley/Capital Region and Berkshires for
Thursday night.

The secondary front, which appears to be the actual arctic
boundary, looks to move southeastward closer to daybreak. Again,
at least scattered snow showers/squalls could accompany this
boundary. Overall, it looks like for valley areas, scattered
coatings of a few tenths of an inch could occur between the two
frontal passages Thursday night through daybreak Friday, with
accums of up to an inch across the western Mohawk Valley, and
1-2 inches across the western Adirondacks, and higher terrain of
southern VT into the Berkshires.

Lows by Friday morning should be in the teens to lower 20s
across northern areas, and mid 20s to lower 30s for lower
elevations to the south and east.

On Friday, still some scattered snow showers possible through
noontime, especially across portions of the far western Mohawk
Valley/Adirondacks, Schoharie Valley and eastern Catskills, as
some multi-banded snowbands may occur before low level
inversions drop off later Friday morning into the afternoon. It
will remain windy, with gusts of 25-35 mph likely, perhaps
slightly stronger within the Mohawk Valley region/Capital Region
and Berkshires. Will need to monitor again for possible wind
advisories in some areas. Temperatures may rebound in some
valley areas Friday morning, into the upper 20s/lower-mid 30s,
with temps generally holding in the teens and 20s for most
higher terrain.

Friday night-Saturday, clear and cold Friday night, with
gradually diminishing winds. Lows should fall into the single
digits and teens by Saturday morning, although could be even
lower if winds drop off earlier Friday night. Mostly sunny for
Saturday, remaining cold but with lighter winds, with highs
mainly in the 30s for valleys, and 20s to lower 30s across
higher terrain areas.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The weekend will end with the arctic high retreating east of New
England with the air mass gradually modifying some, as the mid and
upper level flow becomes zonal.  A short-wave trough will be
approaching from the Upper MS River Valley and Midwest on Sunday.
After a cold start to the morning with lows in the teens to lower
20s, high will rebound into the lower to mid 40S in the valley
areas, and mid 30s to around 40F over the mountains. These temps
will still be close to 10 degrees below normal in many locations. We
are expecting the clouds to thicken and lower with the short-wave
trough approaching, and we lowered the PoPs to slight chance mainly
west of the Hudson River Valley in the afternoon into the early
evening with the slower timing on the latest ECWMF/GFS/GEFS with the
12Z CAN GGEM fastest with over running light rain/snow.

Sunday night through Monday...A complex scenario sets up with short-
wave energy shifting to the coast near the Delmarva Region towards
daybreak Monday on the GFS with a secondary low forming and then the
500 hPa circulation closes off south of Long Island by 00Z/TUE,
while the ECMWF is further south with the secondary low near eastern
NC 00Z/TUE and the H500 circulation closing off further west near
the OH Valley. According to the 12Z ECMWF, very little pcpn would
impact the region until late Monday.  A superblend of the guidance
would favor the northern solution with at least chance PoPs Sunday
night into Monday. This scenario will have to be monitored, as the
thermal profiles would favor rain/snow in the valleys in the morning
changing to rain as the boundary layer warms in the afternoon, with
snow transitioning to rain/snow or rain over the higher terrain.
Lows would be in the upper 20s to mid 30s with highs in the upper
30s to mid/upper 40s across the region.

Monday night into Tuesday...We have continued with the Superblend
consensus which favors the faster 12Z GFS solution/WPC guidance
lifting the closed H500 circulation away from the Long Island and
New England Coast Monday night into Tuesday.  Our forecast reflects
this set-up with a mixture of rain and snow showers ending by
Tuesday morning with a slight chc persisting over the western New
England higher terrain.  The 12Z ECMWF would favor a much slower
scenario lifting the H500 closed/cut-off low away from the Northeast
or NY and New England Tuesday into Wednesday with lingering rain and
snow showers. Temps will still run slightly below normal with upper
20s to lower/mid 30s for lows, and highs in the mid 40s to lower 50s
in the valleys areas, and upper 30s to mid 40s over the higher
terrain.

Tuesday night into Wednesday...High pressure ridges back in from the
lower Great Lakes Region and OH valley with the departing coastal
cyclone and closed mid and upper level low off the New England
Coast. The sfc high moves over the Northeast on Wednesday with the
next short-wave trough and cold front quickly moving towards the
region from the Midwest/Great Lakes Region for Wed night. Temps
trend back to normal readings for mid-November.

.AVIATION /06Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
High pressure over the region will shift offshore Thursday as a
cold front and a strong upper level trough approach the region.
Some rain and snow showers will accompany the front as it
approaches and moves though Thursday night.

Clear skies overnight due to the subsidence from the surface
high over the region. Clouds will be in the increase Thursday
thickening and lowering during the day especially in the
afternoon into the evening. MVFR conditions due to ceilings are
expected to develop in the evening ahead of the front. The risk
for rain/snow showers is expected to be limited to KGFL through
06Z/Friday; have addressed with a VCSH late in the TAF period.

Calm winds overnight, then south flow develops at 5 to 10 knots
Thursday morning with the flow shifting more to the southwest
as the front approaches with gusts developing.

.FIRE WEATHER...
High pressure will be in place across the region tonight,
providing cold and dry conditions. A cold front approaching
from Canada will bring rain and snow showers Thursday night,
with a much colder air mass building in late Thursday night into
Friday. Gusty northwest winds will make it feel quite brisk and
cold. High pressure will then build back in by Saturday, with
well below normal temperatures, but less windy conditions.

.HYDROLOGY...
Dry conditions will prevail tonight through Thursday with high
pressure in place. A cold front will bring some light rain and
snow showers Thursday night, with some snow showers persisting
west of the Hudson Valley into Friday. Light precipitation
amounts will have no affect on area rivers and streams.

A very cold air mass will build in late Thursday night and will
last into much of the upcoming weekend. Ice may begin to form
on some shallow lakes/ponds during this time.
