The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Southern Herkimer County in eastern New York...

* Until 430 PM EDT

* At 1229 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have 
  already fallen and up to an additional inch is expected over the 
  next hour. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Ilion, Herkimer, Little Falls, Mohawk, Frankfort, Ohio, West
  Winfield, Newport, Middleville, Poland, Cold Brook, Jordanville,
  Northwood, Cedarville, Russia, Fairfield, Elizabethtown, Norway,
  Spinnerville and Cedar Lake.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 430 PM EDT FOR
SOUTHERN HERKIMER COUNTY...

At 100 PM EDT, emergency management reported a mudslide near Newport 
along Route 28 due to heavy rain. Up to two inches of rain have 
already fallen and additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding 
is already occurring or expected to begin shortly.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Ilion, Herkimer, Little Falls, Mohawk, Frankfort, Ohio, West
Winfield, Newport, Middleville, Poland, Cold Brook, Jordanville,
Northwood, Cedarville, Russia, Fairfield, Elizabethtown, Norway,
Spinnerville and Cedar Lake.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
