The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a Red Flag Warning...which is in effect from noon to 10 PM AKDT Friday. * TIMING...The lowest relative humidity values and strongest winds are expected in the late afternoon and early evening. * WINDS...Northeast around 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. * HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent. * TEMPERATURES...Around 75 degrees. * IMPACTS...Rapid ignition, growth and spread of fires will be possible. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that conditions are occurring or will occur which could lead to the development of large and dangerous fires. Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Fairbanks AK 549 AM AKDT Thu Jun 1 2017 .DISCUSSION... Models in decent agreement through about 60 hours. Upper level ridge will build in over northern Alaska through the weekend. Vertically stacked low in the high arctic north of Wrangel Island will move northwestward and weaken. Stable airmass over the interior will limit nearly all convection. As upper level ridge builds in over Northern Alaska, showers will be all but shut off. Areas of fog blanketing the coastal areas on the West Coast and the interior areas just inland of the coastal sections. Surface winds will be light over most areas. The surface winds will continue to assist in drying out the southeastern interior. This could lead to Red Flag conditions in a day or so. Thermal trough over the southeastern interior will persist through at least the weekend but with little impact to thunderstorms or rainfall expected. Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None. && .FIRE WEATHER... Drying conditions over Northern Alaska will continue as expected with upper level ridge building in from east to west over the Central Interior. && .HYDROLOGY...
