THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  JASPER COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI

* UNTIL 530 AM CDT

* AT 1114 PM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
  A CLUSTER OF STATIONARY THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING TORRENTIAL   
  RAINFALL ACROSS THE SOUTHERN JAPSER COUNTY.  DOPPLER RADAR  
  ESTIMATED THAT OVER TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAVE FALLEN IN THE LAST   
  HOUR WITH THESE STORMS. THE JOPLIN AIRPORT HAD ALREADY RECEIVED AN
  INCH OF RAINFALL IN LESS THAN AN HOUR.

* SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS ARE PRODUCING TORRENTIAL RAINFALL IN THE
  WARNED AREA. RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH
  FLOODING TO OCCUR. SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING   
  INCLUDE...JOPLIN...WEBB CITY...AVILLA...SARCOXIE AND CARTHAGE.

ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF TWO TO THREE INCHES ARE LIKELY IN THE 
WARNED AREA AS SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE TO DEVELOP 
SOUTHWEST INTO OKLAHOMA AND WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA OVERNIGHT. 
VERY WEAK WIND FIELDS ALOFT WILL SUPPORT SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS 
CAPABLE OF PRODUCING TORRENTIAL RAINFALL.

FLOODING WILL LIKELY BEGIN AS URBAN STREET FLOODING WITH THE HEAVY 
RAINFALL ALREADY ONGOING. HOWEVER...THIS SITUATION WILL QUICKLY 
DETERIORATE OVERNIGHT AS ADDITIONAL EXCESSIVE RAINFALL MOVES OVER 
THE ALREADY SATURATED GROUNDS. THOSE ALONG RIVERS... CREEKS AND 
STREAMS SHOULD BE PREPARED TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND SHOULD FLOOD 
WATERS THREATEN.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE
UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS
SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
