FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
831 AM EST TUE DEC 24 2002

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR SOAPE CREEK IN COBB COUNTY IN NORTH 
CENTRAL GEORGIA

* UNTIL 1230 PM EST

* AT 800 AM EST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED   
RAINFALL OF ONE TO TWO INCHES OR MORE HAS FALLEN IN THE LAST SEVERAL 
HOURS OVER THE SOAPE CREEK DRAINAGE BASIN. 

THIS RAINFALL HAS RESULTED IN A RAPID RISE OF THE CREEK TO 10 FEET 
AT 830 AM THIS MORNING. THE CREEK IS EXPECTED TO RISE TO A FLOOD 
CREST OF 12.5 FEET AROUND 930 AM AND THEN SLOWLY FALL. 

THIS COMPARES TO A CREST OF 11.25 FEET ON 23 JULY 1997 AND 13.06 
FEET ON 25 SEPTEMBER 1997.

* OTHER CREEKS IN THE ATLANTA AREA WILL BE SWOLLEN AND NEAR BANKFULL 
FROM THE HEAVY RAIN.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY. TWO FEET OF RUSHING WATER CAN CARRY AWAY MOST VEHICLES...
INCLUDING SUVS AND PICKUPS. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD
BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
