AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL 900 PM EDT FRI SEP 28 2001 00Z OBSERVATIONS INDICATE 1005 MB SURFACE LOW NEAR 24N 84W. THIS IS ABOUT MIDWAY BETWEEN THE SLOWER 12Z ETA MODEL FORECAST AND THE FASTER 18Z AVN FORECAST. AFTER CONSULTATION WITH TPC...BELIEVE THAT SURFACE LOW DEVELOPMENT WILL BE RELATIVELY SLOW AND EASTWARD MOTION NOT NEARLY AS FAST AS AVIATION WHICH PUTS 1000 MB LOW NEAR WEST PALM BEACH AT 12Z SATURDAY. AS NOTED BY SPC...THUNDERSTORM CELLS OVER FLORIDA STRAITS AND FLORIDA BAY HAVE BEEN SHOWING TENDENCY TO ROTATE THIS EVENING. WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS SIGNIFICANT DIGGING OF MID LEVEL SHORTWAVE OVER CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO ENHANCING UPPER LEVEL DIFFLUENCE OVER EASTERN GULF. WILL MONITOR SITUATION CLOSELY FOR ANY POSSIBLE TORNADIC ACTIVITY TONIGHT...ESPECIALLY ALONG THE SOUTHWEST COAST. HEAVIEST RAIN TONIGHT WILL LIKELY ALSO BE ALONG THE SOUTHWEST COAST...BUT SHOULD INCREASE OVER ENTIRE SOUTH FLORIDA PENINSULA ON SATURDAY. FLOOD WATCH WILL THEREFORE BE CONTINUED THROUGH SATURDAY...BUT MOST LIKELY WILL END BY SATURDAY NIGHT AS DRYER AIR ADVECTS INTO THE AREA. .MIA....FLOOD WATCH ALL OF SOUTH FLORIDA TONIGHT-SATURDAY.
