THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ST LOUIS HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  RANDOLPH COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS

* UNTIL 430 PM CDT

* AT 1227 PM CDT...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAIN FROM JUST SOUTH OF ST LOUIS
SOUTHWARD TO NEAR CHESTER ILLINOIS. THESE STORMS WILL INCREASE IN
INTENSITY AS THEY MOVE SOUTH ACROSS RANDOLPH COUNTY.

THUNDERSTORMS WHICH ROLLED THROUGH THE AREA THIS MORNING DUMPED 1 TO
2 INCHES OF RAIN OVER THE EASTERN HALF OF RANDOLPH COUNTY ACCORDING
TO NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER ESTIMATES. ANOTHER 1 TO LOCALLY
3 INCHES OF RAIN WILL FALL THIS AFTERNOON AS THESE STORMS MOVE SOUTH
AT 25 MPH THROUGH THE AREA.

* FLASH FLOODING CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS THE AREA...AND WILL BE
AFFECTING THE ENTIRE COUNTY INCLUDING THE COMMUNITIES OF SPARTA...
STEELVILLE...AND CHESTER AS WELL AS THE KASKASKIA RIVER AND OTHER
SMALLER STREAMS AND TRIBUTARIES.

IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED OR IMMINENT...MOVE QUICKLY TO HIGHER
GROUND. NEVER DRIVE INTO AN AREA WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND BARRICADES!! IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS...
