SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX 3 PM CDT TUE APR 10 2001 CHANCE OF RAIN TONIGHT APPEARS LOW AND THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER EVEN LOWER AS DRY SLOT PORTION OF UPPER LOW TAKES AIM TOWARD SOUTH TEXAS. CAPPING INVERSION COMBINED WITH THE LACK OF A SURFACE FOCUSING MECHANISM SHOULD PRECLUDE CONVECTION FOR THIS EVENING, AND UPSTREAM CLOUD PATTERNS INDICATE NO CONVECTION IN OROGRAPHICALLY ENHANCED AREAS. ONE EXCEPTION IS AROUND BIG BEND, SO WILL LIKELY MENTION THE CHANCE OF RAIN AS BEING BEST AFTER MIDNIGHT FOR ALL EXCEPT THE DEL RIO AREA. EXPECT A THIN, BROKEN BAND OF CONVECTION ALONG THE FRONT FOR NORTHERN COUNTIES WITH ONLY ISOLATED LIGHT SHOWERS FORMING SOUTH OF THE HILL COUNTRY. DRYNESS OF AIR TO MOVE THROUGH TOMORROW AND LACK OF RECENT RAINFALL OVER WESTERN COUNTIES SUGGESTS THE NEED FOR AN RFW FOR TOMORROW. THIS HAZARD SHOULD BE SHORT-LIVED AS WINDS WILL RELAX BY LATE AFTERNOON. MEDIUM RANGE MODELS SUGGEST ENOUGH LOW LEVEL MOISTURE FOR A CHANCE OF RAIN, BUT ALSO A STABLE PATTERN ALOFT WITH A BROAD RIDGE BUILDING OVER TEXAS THIS WEEKEND. THIS BROAD PATTERN WOULD LIKELY RESULT IN LIMITED MOISTURE BEING PULLED UP FROM THE TROPICAL PACIFIC.
