THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...
  ATASCOSA

* UNTIL 8 PM CST

* AT 552 PM...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED VERY HEAVY RAIN
  20 MILES SOUTHEAST OF CHARLOTTE...OR ABOUT 21 MILES SOUTH OF       
  JOURDANTON...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 20 MPH.

VERY HEAVY RAINFALL UP TO 5 INCHES HAS FALLEN OVER THE ATASCOSA AND 
MCMULLEN COUNTY LINE. NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS ARE INDICATED BY RADAR 
TO BE APPROACHING SOUTHERN ATASCOSA COUNTY AND SHOULD AGGRAVATE 
RUNOFF PROBLEMS THROUGH 7 PM. THOUGH THE MAIN THREAT OF FLOODING IS 
OVER SOUTHERN ATASCOSA COUNTY...DOPPLER RADAR ALSO ESTIMATED HEAVY 
RAINS UP TO 2 AND 1/2 INCHES OVER A SMALL AREA AROUND 8 MILES 
NORTHWEST OF CHARLOTTE.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE 
DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN 
AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR OTHER LOW 
SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT
QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.
