SOUTHEAST ARIZONA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TUCSON AZ 225 PM MST SAT JUN 17 2000 SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN ACROSS THE REGION OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. THIS COMBINED WITH HIGHER HUMIDITY LEVELS WILL LEAD TO SLIGHTLY LOWER AFTERNOON HIGH TEMPERATURES. THE COMBINATION OF THESE TWO FACTORS WILL ALSO RESULT IN THE CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY OVER THE MOUNTAINS FROM TUCSON EAST THROUGH THE WEEKEND. DISCUSSION...AGAIN...WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE OVER EASTERN SECTIONS OF THE CWA ATTM... FROM THE MOUNTAINS SURROUNDING TUCSON...EAST TO THE NEW MEXICO BORDER. THESE ARE IN RESPONSE TO THE GULF SURGE WHICH TOOK PLACE OVERNIGHT RESULTING IN SURFACE DEW POINTS INCREASING ALMOST 20 DEGREES FROM THIS TIME YESTERDAY. IN ADDITION...GOES PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES INDICATE BETWEEN 1.25 AND 1.5 INCHES OVER SOUTHEAST ARIZONA ATTM...WHICH MATCHES UP WELL WITH THE MORNING TUS SOUNDING VALUE OF 1.25 INCHES. THE CURRENT ACTIVITY WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON HOURS AND INTO THE EARLY EVENING HOURS TONIGHT BEFORE DAYTIME HEATING ABATES. MODELS IN AGREEMENT THROUGH 36 HOURS WITH KEEPING MOISTURE ACROSS SOUTHEAST ARIZONA...AND THEN THE ETA/NGM BEGIN TO DRY US OUT FROM WEST TO EAST WHILE AVN KEEPS MOISTURE IN PLACE THROUGH 72 HOURS. GIVEN THE TIME OF YEAR...ONCE THE MOISTURE IS IN PLACE IT WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT TO SCOUR OUT. WILL GO WITH A COMPROMISE BETWEEN THE TWO SOLUTIONS AND DRY OUT WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE CWA...WITH A CONTINUED THREAT OF ISOLATED DAYTIME AND EVENING STORMS FROM TUCSON EAST INTO TUESDAY. THE INCREASED MOISTURE AND CLOUDINESS WILL ALSO HOLD DOWN DAYTIME TEMPERATURES AND KEEP NIGHTTIME TEMPERATURES UP A FEW DEGREES OVER GUIDANCE VALUES. ON THE EXTENDED...MODEL RH CROSS SECTIONS AND WIND GUIDANCE INDICATE SOME DRIER SOUTHWEST FLOW WILL BEGIN TO OVERTAKE THE AREA LATE MONDAY AND TUESDAY...THUS WILL GO WITH PARTLY CLOUDY AFTERNOONS FOR THE LATTER HALF OF THE EXTENDED.
