1057 AM CDT SAT JUN 17 2000

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TULSA HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR
  CRAWFORD COUNTY IN NORTHWEST ARKANSAS

* UNTIL 100 PM CDT

* AT 1057 AM CDT RADAR INDICATED SCATTERED LIGHT TO MODERATE SHOWERS
CONTINUING ACROSS CRAWFORD COUNTY.  LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS
REPORTED THAT NUMEROUS CREEKS WERE OUT OF THEIR BANKS AND MANY LOW
WATER CROSSING WERE FLOODED IN AND AROUND MOUNTAINBURG.  WHILE ONLY
MINOR AMOUNTS OF ADDITIONAL RAINFALL ARE EXPECTED THROUGH EARLY THIS
AFTERNOON...RUNOFF FROM EARLIER HEAVY RAINS WILL LEAD TO CONTINUED
FLASH FLOODING IN THE WARNED AREA.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL CONTINUE TO BE AFFECTED BY THE HEAVY RAIN
INCLUDE LEE CREEK...CHESTER...NATURAL DAM...CEDARVILLE AND
MOUNTAINBURG

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR OTHER LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT. TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER MAY BE TOO DEEP TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY.
VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOVE TO
HIGHER GROUND.
