NORTHEASTERN LANDER COUNTY IN NEVADA * UNTIL 545 PM PDT * AT 510 PM PDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM 8 MILES SOUTHEAST OF BATTLE MOUNTAIN...MOVING EAST AT 15 MPH. VERY LARGE HAIL IS POSSIBLE WITH THIS SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF THE STORM...PUT YOUR CAR IN A GARAGE AND MOVE TO A SUBSTANTIAL SHELTER. NORTHERN GREAT BASIN FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ELKO NV 200 PM PDT WED MAY 24 2000 SYNOPSIS...PLENTY OF MOISTURE AND A WEATHER DISTURBANCE WILL COMBINE TO PRODUCE A THREAT OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD BACK IN ON FRIDAY FOR A RETURN TO WARM AND DRY WEATHER THIS WEEKEND. SHORT TERM...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE DUMPING UP TO 3/4 INCH OF RAIN AND PEA SIZED HAIL OVER MUCH OF OUR AREA. THESE STORMS ARE BEING CAUSED BY A DEFORMATION ZONE SPLITTING OUR AREA FROM NORTHEAST TO SOUTHWEST. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS HUMBOLDT COUNTY WHICH HAS LESS ACTIVITY.
