WINDHAM COUNTY IN SOUTHERN VERMONT * UNTIL 900 AM EDT * AT 430 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED MORE HEAVY RAIN MOVING INTO WINDHAM COUNTY. THIS HEAVY RAIN WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE ALREADY HARD HIT AREA AROUND NEWFANE ALONG ROUTE 30. RADAR ESTIMATES SHOW SIX OR MORE INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN IN THE NEWFANE AREA SINCE 900 PM SUNDAY. ANOTHER ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN IS POSSIBLE THROUGHOUT THIS AREA...BEFORE THE RAIN TAPERS OFF AFTER DAYBREAK MONDAY. SEVERE FLOODING WILL CONTINUE ALONG THE WHITE RIVER AND ITS TRIBUTARIES AROUND NEWFANE AND ALONG ROUTE 30. THE VERMONT STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT ALSO REPORTED MUD SLIDES NEAR THE TOWN OF TOWNSEND ON ROUTE 30...CLOSING THE ROAD. RAIN HAS ALSO BEEN HEAVY OVER THE REST OF THE COUNTY...WITH RADAR ESTIMATES SHOWING ONE TO THREE INCHES OVER THE REST OF THE COUNTY. WITH ANOTHER ONE TO TWO INCHES LIKELY IN OTHER LOCATIONS BEFORE THE RAIN ENDS...FLASH FLOODING CAN ALSO BE EXPECTED IN OTHER PARTS OF WINDHAM COUNTY. IF YOU LIVE ALONG THE WEST RIVER OR ITS TRIBUTARIES NEAR NEWFANE... AND YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO...HEAD FOR HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.
