000 TTAA00 KHOU 070350 FFWHOU TXC039-167-201-070540- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX 948 PM CST TUE JAN 6 1998 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1140 PM CST FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN SOUTHEASTERN TEXAS ...NORTHEASTERN BRAZORIA COUNTY ...NORTHERN GALVESTON COUNTY ...SOUTHEASTERN HARRIS COUNTY AT 940 PM...RADAR INDICATED ONE MORE BAND OF HEAVY RAIN THAT STRETCHED FROM NEAR FRIENDSWOOD TO NEAR BELLAIRE AND WAS MOVING TO THE NORTHEAST AT 20 MPH. RAINFALL RATES ARE ESTIMATED AT 1/2 TO 1 INCH PER HOUR...MAINLY SOUTHEAST OF HIGHWAY 59. THIS AREA HAS RECIEVED RAINFALL OFF AND ON THROUGHOUT THE DAY...LEAVING THE GROUNDS SATURATED. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OF THIS AMOUNT WILL LIKELY RESULT IN THE RAPID RUN OFF OF WATERS AND CAUSE FLOOD PROBLEMS ACROSS THE WARNED AREA OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. THE RAINFALL WILL BE TAPPERING OFF OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS AS THE STORMS MOVE OFF TO THE NORTHEAST...LESSONING THE CHANCES FOR FLOOD PROBLEMS AT THAT TIME. REMEMBER...BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLASH FLOODING. IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY AND MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
