EASTERN IDAHO AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE POCATELLO IDAHO 845 AM MDT TUE JUN 10 1997 KSFX 88D INDICATES RAIN HAS OVERSPREAD THE SOUTHEAST HIGHLANDS AND INTO THE SNAKE PLAIN. THE CULPRIT BEHIND THE RAIN IS A WELL DEFINED SHORTWAVE OVER NORTHWEST NV. WATER VAPOR IMAGERY INDICATES THAT IT HAS TAPPED THE DEEP RESIDUAL MOISTURE ALONG THE DIVIDE. THE SHORT WAVE IS EXPECTED TO PROPAGATE NORTHEAST ACROSS EASTERN IDAHO TODAY... AND WITH ITS STRONG DYNAMICS...THIS MORNINGS RAIN SHOULD BE FOLLOWED BY BANDS OF CONVECTION LATER TODAY. STEERING AND SURFACE WINDS REMAIN VERY LIGHT BRINGING THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT RAIN ACCUMULATION. THE CURRENT FORECAST SOLIDLY COVERS THE UNFOLDING SCENARIO. A FURTHER CONCERN THAT NEEDS ADDRESSING ARE THE SMALL STREAMS. WE ARE RECEIVING REPORTS OF OVERFLOWING STREAMS IN THE EASTERN HIGHLANDS WHICH WILL BE FURTHER AGGRAVATED WITH THE EXPECTED RAINFALL TODAY. THEREFORE WE PLAN TO ISSUE A SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY.
