000 TTAA00 KPHL 211253 COR FFWPHL NJC001-011-029-211500- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING...COR EXPIRATION TIME NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PHILADELPHIA/MOUNT HOLLY NJ 850 AM EDT THU AUG 21 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY NJ HAS EXTENDED THE FLOOD WARNING UNTIL 1100 AM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN NEW JERSEY ...ATLANTIC COUNTY THUNDERSTORMS WHICH BROUGHT TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS TO THE REGION OVERNIGHT HAVE MOVED OFFSHORE...BUT THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE. MOST MAJOR ROADWAYS REMAIN FLOODED AND CLOSED IN THE AREA. ATLANTIC COUNTY OEM REPORTED THAT MANY MAJOR ROADWAYS REMAIN CLOSED AND ONLY ONE LANE WAS OPEN IN EACH DIRECTION OF THE BLACK HORSE PIKE. ATLANTIC CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AS OF 8 AM WAS OPEN BUT DIFFICULT TO REACH DUE TO FLOODED ROADS. ALTHOUGH THE PRECIPITATION HAS ENDED...IT WILL TAKE A FEW MORE HOURS FOR EXCESS WATER TO DRAIN OFF FOLLOW THE DIRECTION OF POLICE AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL IN YOUR AREA. NEVER DRIVE ON BARRICADED ROADS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED AREAS. THE WATER MAY BE DEEPER THAN YOU THINK. RAPIDLY RISING WATERS CAN QUICKLY ENGULF YOUR VEHICLE AND ITS OCCUPANTS. IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS...ABANDON IT AND SEEK HIGHER GROUND QUICKLY. PERSONS WHO HAVE TRAVELING PLANS INTO THE AREA SHOULD BE ADVISED THAT TRAVEL WILL BE DIFFICULT AT BEST...ESPECIALLY DURING THE EARLY PART OF THE MORNING COMMUTE.
