000 TTAA00 KBUF 161627 RRA SVRBUF NYC009-161730- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY 1228 PM EDT SAT AUG 16 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO NY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 130 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN WESTERN NEW YORK ...CATTARAUGUS COUNTY AT 1230 PM...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXTENDING FROM EASTERN CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY...SOUTH TO NEAR WARREN PENNSYLVANIA. THESE STORMS WERE MOVING RAPIDLY EASTWARD AT 50 MILES AN HOUR AND WILL CROSS ALL OF CATTARAUGUS COUNTY BY 130 PM. THE STORMS SHOULD REACH ELLICOTTVILLE BY 1250 PM AND OLEAN BY 115 PM. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH AND/OR HAIL 3/4 INCH OR LARGER. FOR YOUR PROTECTION FROM POTENTIALLY DAMAGING WINDS...MOVE TO AN INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS.
