205 AM MDT MON AUG 4 1997
THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR NORTHEASTERN MORGAN AND NORTHWESTERN
WASHINGTON COUNTIES HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL 400 AM MDT.
THE WARNING INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS
AKRON...ANTELOPE SPRINGS...BRUSH...HILLROSE...MIDWAY...
PREWITT RESERVOIR AND SNYDER
AT 200 AM MDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN OVER EASTERN MORGAN COUNTY...THE
STRONGEST STORMS WERE LOCATED FROM HILLROSE TO JUST EAST OF BRUSH TO
JUST NORTHEAST OF GARY. THESE STORMS WERE PRODUCING ANOTHER 1 TO 2
INCHES OF RAIN IN ABOUT 45 MINUTES. THEY WERE MOVING SOUTHEAST AT
15 MPH.
LOCAL SHERIFF DEPARTMENTS REPORTED THAT HIGHWAY 6 WAS UNDER WATER
EAST OF HILLROSE. SOME BASEMENTS WERE ALSO FLOODED IN THE HILLROSE
AREA AS UP TO 4 INCHES OF RAIN HAD ALREADY FALLEN. ANOTHER INCH OF
RAIN IN THAT AREA WILL CAUSE ADDITIONAL FLOODING PROBLEMS. THE RAIN
IS EXPECTED TO END OVER MORGAN AND NORTHWEST WASHINGTON COUNTIES
BETWEEN 230 AND 330 AM.
THIS VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS
AND STREAMS...ROADS AND HIGHWAYS...NORMALLY DRY WASHES AND
ARROYOS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.
PERSONS LIVING ALONG NORTH STERLING CANAL...CAMP CREEK...TWENTYTWO
SLOUGH...L F DRAW...AND OTHER SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS SHOULD MOVE
TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY!
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS SWIFTLY FLOWING WATERS OR WATERS OF UNKNOWN
DEPTH BY FOOT OR BY AUTOMOBILE.
