FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PHILADELPHIA/MOUNT HOLLY NJ
1130 PM EST MON APR 1 1996

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY NJ HAS EXTENDED THE FLOOD
WARNING FOR NEW CASTLE COUNTY IN DELAWARE UNTIL 500 AM.

THE HEAVY RAIN IN NORTHERN DELAWARE WILL CONTINUE TO LESSEN IN
INTENSITY DURING THE NEXT FEW HOURS...HOWEVER...SOME AREA STREAMS AND
CREEKS WILL REMAIN OUT OF THEIR BANKS FOR A WHILE.  RAINFALL TOTALS
OF 1 TO 2 INCHES WERE COMMON IN NEW CASTLE COUNTY THIS EVENING.

AT 1130 PM...THE RIVER GAGE ON THE CHRISTINA RIVER AT COOCHES BRIDGE
REMAINED ABOVE THE FLOOD STAGE OF 9 FEET.  THE 1130 PM READING WAS
10.6 FEET.  THE LEVEL OF THE CHRISTINA RIVER IS NOT EXPECTED TO RISE
MUCH MORE DURING THE NIGHT...AND IT SHOULD CREST BETWEEN 10.8 AND
11.0 FEET BY 100 AM.  THE RIVER IS FORECAST TO RETURN TO ITS BANKS BY
DAYBREAK.

IN ADDITION TO THE CHRISTINA RIVER...THERE MAY CONTINUE TO BE SOME
MINOR FLOODING ALONG OTHER SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS IN NEW CASTLE
COUNTY DURING THE NIGHT...DUE TO RUNOFF FROM THE HEAVY RAIN.  THERE
MAY ALSO CONTINUE TO BE SOME FLOODING PROBLEMS IN AREAS OF POOR
DRAINAGE.

REMEMBER...DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THROUGH FLOOD WATERS.  THE WATER
MAY BE DEEPER THAN YOU THINK.
