THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GRAND RAPIDS HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING  EFFECTIVE UNTIL  600 PM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN SOUTH CENTRAL LOWER MICHIGAN
 
   ...BRANCH COUNTY...SOUTHERN CALHOUN COUNTY
 
IN SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN
 
   ...ST JOSEPH COUNTY
 
AT 350 PM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A LINE STRONG
THUNDERSTORMS WHICH EXTENDED SOUTH OF BATTLE CREEK TO THREE RIVERS TO
ELKHART INDIANA. THESE STORMS PRODUCED 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN IN LESS
THAN AN HOUR IN THE SOUTHEAST HALF OF CASS COUNTY. THE LINE OF
THUNDERSTORMS WERE STRENGTHENING AS THEY MOVED INTO ST JOSEPH COUNTY.
 
RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1.5 TO 2.5 INCHES OF RAIN IS EXPECTED IN THE WARNING
AREA BY 6 PM.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT. MOST FLASH
FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHERE YOU
ARE RELATIVE TO STREAMS.. RIVERS... OR CREEKS. THEY CAN BECOME
KILLERS IN HEAVY RAINS. CAMPERS SHOULD AVOID CAMPING ALONG STREAMS OR
CREEKS DURING HEAVY RAINS.
