THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TUCSON ARIZONA HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 430 PM MST FOR PEOPLE
IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN SOUTH CENTRAL ARIZONA
 
   ...NORTHEASTERN PIMA COUNTY
 
AT 340 PM..TUCSON DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A STRONG THUNDERSTORM
OVER THE CATALINA MOUNTAINS ABOUT 5 MILES WEST OF MARANA. THIS
WARNING INCLUDES THE GREATER TUCSON AREA ALONG WITH MARANA.
THE THUNDERSTORM OVER THE CATALINAS PRODUCING A STRONG GUST FRONT
MOVING DOWN THE CATALINA MOUNTAINS. WINDS SPEEDS UP TO 60 MPH HAVE
BEEN DETECTED BY THE RADAR AND WILL MOVE THROUGH THE TUCSON AREA
DURING THE NEXT HOUR. RADAR ALSO INDICATES THAT UP TO ONE AND A HALF
INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN DURING THE LAST 30 MINUTES. AUTOMATIC RAIN
GAGE ALONG THE CATALINA HIGHWAY HAS RECORDED NEARLY AN INCH OF RAIN
DURING THE LAST HOUR. RESIDENTS OF TUCSON AND MOTORISTS ON THE
CATALINA HIGHWAY SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR STRONG GUSTY WINDS UP TO
60 MPH UNTIL 430 PM.
 
IF YOU ARE IN ITS PATH YOU SHOULD PREPARE FOR DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS
OF 57 MPH...LARGE HAIL...AND DEADLY LIGHTNING.  PEOPLE OUTSIDE SHOULD
MOVE TO A SHELTER...PREFERABLY INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING BUT STAY AWAY
FROM WINDOWS.
