THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DODGE CITY HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING  EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1130 PM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN SOUTHWEST KANSAS
 
   ...GRAY COUNTY
 
AT 820 PM CDT DOPPLER WEATHER RADAR INDICATED SEVERAL THUNDER-
STORMS OVER ALL OF GRAY COUNTY. VERY HEAVY RAINFALL HAS BEEN
REPORTED IN CIMMARON...ABOUT 15 MILES WEST OF DODGE CITY.
LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS HAVE REPORTED THAT MANY COUNTY ROADS
ARE UNDER WATER.  THESE STORMS WILL CONTINUE OVER GRAY COUNTY
FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS AND ONE TO THREE INCHES OF ADDITIONAL
RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE.
 
MOST FLOODING DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
CROSS BRIDGES... DIPS... OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.
 
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE ACROSS WATER-COVERED ROADWAYS. THE
WATER DEPTH AND CURRENT MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED QUICKLY.
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS
OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING
WHEN WATER BEGINS TO RISE.
