THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT SMITH HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  830 PM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS
 
   ...POLK COUNTY
 
THIS WARNING EXTENDS THE WARNING WHICH WAS SCHEDULED TO EXPIRE AT
630 PM.
 
HEAVY RAIN HAS OCCURRED OVER MUCH OF POLK COUNTY DURING THE PAST FEW
HOURS. RAIN WILL CONTINUE OVER THE COUNTY FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF
HOURS. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3.75 INCHES HAS BEEN REPORTED IN THE
SOUTHERN SECTIONS WHILE SATELLITE ESTIMATES OVER THE AREA ARE OVER 5
INCHES.
 
SOME ROADS ARE UNDERWATER WITH STREETS CLOSED IN SOME PARTS OF MENA.
SMALL STEAM FLOODING IS ALSO LIKELY.  THE RAIN IS NOT AS HEAVY BUT
SOME ADDITIONAL FLOODING IS POSSIBLE.  THE ADDITIONAL RAIN WILL ALSO
SLOW RUNOFF.
 
PEOPLE IN POLK COUNTY SHOULD CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO
OR COMMERCIAL MEDIA FOR LATER STATEMENTS.
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS
OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY.  MOVE UP TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.  DO
NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
 
MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A
SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
