THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM 
WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 615 AM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING 
COUNTIES

   IN THE SOUTHWEST PART OF MISSOURI
      NORTHWEST BARRY...LAWRENCE...NEWTON...JASPER

AT 515AM CDT RADAR SHOWED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IN THE JOLIN AREA.
MOVEMENT WAS SOUTHEAST A 45 MPH.

IF YOU ARE CAUGHT OUTSIDE...FIND SHELTER FROM THE WEATHER IN A
STRONG BUILDING.  DAMAGING WIND...LARGE HAIL...VERY HEAVY RAIN...
AND DEADLY LIGHTNING ARE ALL POSSIBLE IN SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS.
STAY INSIDE AWAY FROM WINDOWS UNTIL THE STORM HAS PASSED.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SPRINGFIELD MO
430AM CDT SAT MAY 26 1990

AT 425AM CDT THE LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS THAT LURKED TO THE NORTH
OF SPRINFIELD IN THE HOURS AFTER MIDNIGHT HAD TAKEN A SOUTHEAST
MOVEMENT.  THEY EXTENDED FROM MONETT TO JUST SOUTH OF SPRINGFIELD TO
CABOOL.  WHEN THIS LINE STARTED ITS SOUTHEAST MOVEMENT IT CAUSED SOME
WIND DAMAGE IN GOLDEN CITY.  ONE REPORT HAS IT THAT ABOUT 1/3 OF THE
STREETS IN GOLDEN CITY ARE BLOCKED WITH DOWNED TREES AND LIMBS.  THERE
WAS SOME STRUCTURAL DAMAGE AS WELL.  ALSO THE LINE PRODUCED SOME
HEAVY RAINFALL AND THERE WAS HIGH WATER IN PORTIONS OF BUFFALO.
THE STORMS HAD STEADILY DECREASED IN INTENSITY SINCE BEGINNING TO
MOVE SOUTHEAST...EVEN AT THAT .64 INCHES OF RAIN FELL AT THE WEATHER
SERVICE OFFICE IN SPRINGFIELD WITHIN THE PAST 30 MINUTES.
