FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  800 AM EST
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...
 
IN NORTHWEST GEORGIA
          ...BARTOW...FANNIN...GILMER...GORDON...MURRAY...PICKENS
          ...POLK
 
4 TO 6 INCHES OF RAIN HAS BEEN REPORTED ACROSS ALL OF NORTHWEST
GEORGIA IN THE LAST 12 HOURS... INCLUDING OVER 6 INCHES AT ETON
IN MURRAY COUNTY. NUMEROUS ROADS HAVE BEEN FLOODED AND EVACUATIONS
HAVE BEEN UNDERWAY IN SEVERAL COUNTIES DUE TO FLOOD WATERS.
 
RAIN IS CONTINUING OVER NORTHWEST GEORGIA AND AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 2
INCHES IS POSSIBLE THIS MORNING.
 
BIG CEDAR CREEK AT CEDARTOWN IN POLK COUNTY WAS AT 13.6 FEET AND
RISING AT 345 AM. A CREST NEAR THE FLOOD STAGE OF 15 FEET IS
EXPECTED AT CEDARTOWN THIS MORNING... BUT WITH ANY ADDITIONAL
HEAVY RAIN MOVING IN FROM ALABAMA THE CREST COULD BE HIGHER.
 
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS
OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY.  MOVE UP TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.  DO
NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
 
MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A
SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
