FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DEL RIO TX
1115 PM CDT SUN JUL 22 1990

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING
EFFECTIVE UNTIL 315 AM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY IN

SOUTHCENTRAL TEXAS...VAL VERDE.

AT 1110 PM CDT RADAR INDICATES THUNDERSTORMS WITH A RAINFALL RATE OF 1
TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR LOCATED NEAR JUNO IN NORTHERN VAL VERDE COUNTY.
THERE WAS LITTLE MOVEMENT.   BECAUSE OF RECENT RAINS THE GROUND
ALREADY SATURATED AND ADDITIONAL RAINFALLL WILL RUNOFF RAPIDLY FLOODING
LOW WATER CROSSINGS AND LOW LYING AREAS.

THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT REPORTED HIGHWAY 163 AND 189 IN NORTHERN VAL
VERDE COUNTY CLOSED BECAUSE OF FLOODED LOW WATER CROSSINGS.
MOTORISTS SHOULD AVOID TRYING TO TRAVEL NORTH ON THESE HIGHWAYS TONIGHT.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES..DIPS..OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM..EVEN A SMALL ONE..ON
FOOT.  TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
