SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ROANOKE VA 850 PM EDT SAT JUN 24 1989 ...THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA... AT 845 PM EDT RADAR WAS SHOWING A LINE OF SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WHICH EXTENDED FROM NORTH OF HOT SPRINGS SOUTHWESTWARD THROUGH CRAIG... MONTGOMERY...PULASKI AND CARROLL COUNTIES. THE STORMS WERE MOVING FASTER THAN LAST NIGHT...MOVING TO THE SOUTHWEST AT AROUND 30 MPH. PEOPLE IN THE PATH OF THESE STORMS CAN EXPECT BRIEF HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND FREQUENT DANGEROUS CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING STRIKES. THEY MAY ALSO HAVE STRONG GUSTY WINDS AND SMALL HAIL. DUE TO THE MOVEMENT AND THE ALIGNMENT OF THESE STORMS...SOME MAY PpASS OVER A SPOT WHICH RECENTLY HAD AN EARLIER THUNDERSTORM.
