The McCully Fire started on August 22, 2026, about 22 miles northwest of Baker City, Oregon, on the Whitman Ranger District. At 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, command of the fire transferred from California Interagency IMT 1 to the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest and a Type 4 organization. California Team 1 produced its final daily update and operations video on Tuesday. However, the forest will periodically provide updates here and on its Facebook page. Effective Friday, September 18, at 7 p.m., Forest Road 73 (Elkhorn Scenic Byway) is completely open to through traffic. However, a closure order remains in effect.
