The fire began on July 16, 2026, following a lightning storm that moved through the area. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is currently in place over the fire to ensure the safety of firefighting aircraft operating on the incident. Firefighting aircraft and drones are a dangerous combination—unauthorized drones in the vicinity can cause accidents or significantly slow wildfire suppression efforts.
