The Davis Coulee Fire began on September 13, 2026 by lightning. The fire is located nine miles southwest of Crow Agency in Big Horn County, Montana. The Davis Coulee Fire is on federal lands managed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). Under the current weather pattern, the fire is producing extreme fire behavior in grass and sagebrush fuels. On Monday, September 14, winds neared 50 miles per hour, driving a rapid run across the fire’s footprint to over 15,000 acres. Due to steep, rugged terrain, ground crews are accessing the fire on foot. Hot, dry conditions and ongoing drought continue to make fuels highly receptive to long‑range spotting and fast‑moving fire behavior.
