The Big Grass Fire, located 25 miles southwest of Jordan Valley, Oregon, was reported on July 23, 2026, following a lightning strike. The Flint Fire, located 8 miles northwest of Triangle, Idaho, was reported on August 25, 2026, following a lightning strike. The Flint Fire is adjacent to the Big Grass Fire on the northeastern side. Fuels in the area consist of brush, short grasses, and tall grasses. The Big Grass Fire exhibited extreme fire behavior, with rapid rates of spread in all directions when smoke lifted and winds picked up in the afternoon. Numerous residential structures, outbuildings, and associated improvements were threatened. Additional values at risk include the Wild and Scenic River corridor, North Fork Campground, Three Forks Campground, priority sage-grouse habitat, essential pronghorn habitat, grazing allotments, a Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS), the South Mountain communication site, and numerous mining operations farther north. Continued fire spread has the potential to impact residential properties, critical infrastructure, recreational facilities, wildlife habitat, rangeland resources, and fire weather monitoring capabilities. The Big Grass and Flint Fires are currently being managed by Southern Area Gray Team.
