   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

As a cold front approached the region, thunderstorms became severe, some of which produced weak tornadoes in Tyler and Jasper counties.

A fast moving tornado touched down near FM1746, blowing down or snapping off several trees. While it was crossing FM92, it ripped off part of the metal roof of a small rural grocery store. Eyewitnesses saw the tornado at the Corp of Engineers office across the street. The sheet metal from the roof was blown into the COE park and damaged several picnic areas, and snapped off several more trees.
