This F1 tornado ran 1.3 miles across Bowie County on March 26, 2000, touching down at 9:29 PM CST and reaching 20 yards wide. It killed nobody.

The rating scale

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. F5261 to 318 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

    The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

What the Weather Service recorded

Tornado developed along a squall line supercell as it moved southeast across the county. A few trees and tree limbs were broken. One tree was laid across the edge of a house and carport but no apparant physical damage was done to the home or carport.

Tornado developed on the comma head at the northern end of a bow echo. A few trees were blown over or broken. This tornado was a continuation of the Red River county, TX tornado.
