This F0 tornado ran 1.0 miles across Jasper County on May 10, 1999, touching down at 7:55 AM CDT. It killed nobody, and did $10,000 of property damage.

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. F5261 to 318 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

What the Weather Service recorded

A small waterspout moved onshore on the Jasper County side of Steinhagen Lake, damaging several camps. Two fishermen on the lake witnessed the tornado. Hundreds of trees were blown down in Martin Dies Jr. State Park next to the lake.

A tornado on the leading edge of a squall line blew down many trees and blew the roof off a barn. The tornado moved parallel to US Highway 190, between Jasper and Steinhagen Lake.
