EF0 tornado, Felt, Oklahoma, May 16, 2016

This EF0 tornado ran 0.3 miles across Cimarron County on May 16, 2016, touching down at 4:57 PM CDT and reaching 25 yards wide. It killed nobody.

The rating scale

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. EF5over 200 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

What the Weather Service recorded

Severe thunderstorms developed in an unstable and sheared environment across New Mexico and moved east across portions of the Oklahoma Panhandle. Hail up to golf ball size and winds as high as 70 mph were reported. Two brief tornadoes were observed by storm chasers near Felt in Cimarron County.

Several storm chasers witnessed a brief tornado about 3 miles northwest of Felt. No damage was observed. An EF-0 rating was assigned.

A second brief tornado was reported by multiple storm chasers approximately two miles northeast of Felt. No damage was observed. A rating of EF-0 was assigned.
