   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

A line of severe storms moved east across Mississippi during the evening of February 8th, with damaging wind gusts and tornadoes with storms along and in advance of the main squall line. Isolated flash flooding also occurred.

This brief tornado began near JK Givens Road, where a hay barn was damaged. Then the tornado moved northward across Holmes Rd., damaged another small shed, destroyed a small barn, and lifted shortly thereafter. The estimated peak winds were 70 mph.

This brief tornado occurred along Givens Road north of the intersection of Tanksley Lane and on the west side of the Tilton community. A metal shed was heavily damaged, with concrete beams pulled out of the ground. At the same property, the roof of a home was damaged. Debris was blown downwind, with insulation in a stand of adjacent trees. The estimated peak winds were 100 mph.

The county was under a tornado watch, issued at 22:52 UTC and running to 05:00 UTC.
