EF0 tornado, Tab to Greenhill, Indiana, June 11, 2026

From Tab to Greenhill, this EF0 tornado ran 10.5 miles across Warren County on June 11, 2026, touching down at 8:59 PM EDT and reaching 75 yards wide. It killed nobody.

Preliminary. This is NWS IND's damage survey, filed in the Damage Assessment Toolkit as Northern Warren. The rating, the path and the casualties are the survey's and can change while it is revised. The Storm Prediction Center compiles the official record of 2026 from these surveys and publishes it in the spring of 2027; this page moves to that tornado's permanent address when it does.

The rating scale

Tracks are drawn in the color of the rating. The Enhanced Fujita scale rates the damage rather than measuring the wind: the speeds are what that damage is taken to imply.

  1. EF065 to 85 mphthis tornado

Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

  2. EF186 to 110 mph

Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

  3. EF2111 to 135 mph

Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

  4. EF3136 to 165 mph

Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

  5. EF4166 to 200 mph

Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. EF5over 200 mph

Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

What the survey found

A fast-moving QLCS brought sporadic tree and farm structure damage to portions of northern Warren county. Damage began near West County Road 850N with an uprooted tree with additional minor damage to a barn after the tornado crossed US 41. The most significant damage was noted near the intersection of Rainsville Road and State Road 26 where multiple trees were downed and corn fields showed clear convergence. The tornado tracked mostly through open fields with additional tree damage noted on North 200E and North 300E before dissipating just south of the Benton county line.

Written by NWS IND in the NWS Damage Assessment Toolkit. A survey is revised as better evidence arrives.

The damage survey

67 damage points were recorded along this path by NWS ILX and NWS IND and NWS LOT, in the Damage Assessment Toolkit the survey teams carry. The strongest indicator was rated EF1. The highest wind the damage implies is 110 mph.

  • Damage to the roof of the John Deere facility, reported as a "hole in the roof"
  • Grain bins/grain elevator destroyed
  • Damage in tree line about a quarter mile west
  • Damage in tree line half mile northwest

What the Weather Service recorded

During the 11th evening, a cold front interacted with a warm, moist, and unstable air mass across central and northern Indiana, initiating a fast-moving severe convective line. The synoptic setup supported widespread straight-line wind damage and embedded mesovortices as the squall line tracked eastward through the region between 7:59 PM EST and 10:32 PM EST.||Five tornadoes touched down across Warren, Carroll, Johnson, Shelby, and Randolph counties during the event. Four brief EF-0 tornadoes produced peak winds between 70 mph and 85 mph, causing tree damage and minor agricultural impacts. The most significant tornado was an EF-1 that tracked nearly 12 miles across Johnson and Shelby counties, generating peak winds of 105 mph that damaged several homes, outbuildings, and trees.||Widespread straight-line winds produced the majority of the severe impacts as the line moved across more than a dozen counties. Measured wind gusts frequently ranged from 59 mph to 67 mph, with localized straight-line winds estimated up to 95 mph in Howard County. Damage across the region included widespread downed trees and power lines, overturned commercial vehicles on major highways, and structural damage to roofs, barns, and outbuildings. This severe weather event would be the third of many for the month which would eventually define a formal disaster period from June 6th to the 18th which was declared by the governor of Indiana.

An EF-0 tornado with path length of 10.53 miles and maximum width 75 yards traveled across mostly rural areas of northern Warren County. The peak winds were 85 mph with the tornado causing mainly sporadic tree damage with corn fields showing clear convergence.

The forecast that day

The Storm Prediction Center had this point in a Enhanced Risk, with a 0.05 chance of a tornado within 25 miles, in the hatched area where significant tornadoes were expected. The outlook in force was issued at 19:53 UTC.

SPC's Day 1 convective outlook as it stood when the tornado began, read at the touchdown point. The same archive is on the radar archive.

What this means

Ratings are the survey's, read off the damage rather than measured; the rating scale is above. A survey can be revised, so the rating, the path and the casualties can all still change.
