EF0 tornado, Harmony, Illinois, June 24, 2026
This EF0 tornado ran 0.3 miles across McHenry County on June 24, 2026, touching down at 5:34 PM CDT and reaching 10 yards wide. It killed nobody.

The rating scale

Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.
EF186 to 110 mph
Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.
EF2111 to 135 mph
Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.
EF3136 to 165 mph
Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.
EF4166 to 200 mph
Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.
EF5over 200 mph
Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

What the survey found
A brief tornado touched down in a field just northwest of Harmony Road and Briar Hill Road. The tornado moved to the southeast, causing damage to the roof of a barn and downing a few branches. A few metal panels from the roof of the barn were scattered approximately 200-300 yards. A video shows this brief tornado with no clear condensation funnel but swirling debris being lofted.

What the Weather Service recorded
Scattered thunderstorms produced localized wind damage, localized flooding and one brief tornado during the afternoon and evening of June 24th.
A brief tornado with estimated peak winds of 75 mph touched down in a field north of Harmony Road, approximately a half mile east of Seeman Road. The tornado moved southeast causing damage to the roof of a barn and downing some tree limbs. A few metal panels from the roof of a barn were scattered approximately 200 to 300 yards away. A utility pole was damaged. The tornado ended southwest of the intersection of Harmony Road and Briar Hill Road. A video showed this brief tornado with no clear condensation funnel but swirling debris being lofted.
