From Old Ripley to Nokomis, this F0 tornado ran 0.2 miles across Montgomery County on May 9, 1995, touching down at 7:00 PM CDT and reaching 40 yards wide. It killed nobody.

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. F5261 to 318 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

What the Weather Service recorded

A small tornado touched down briefly in the extreme southwest part of the county. Reported by a SKYWARN spotter.

A tornado struck three farms briefly just east of Nokomis doing significant damage to several outbuildings. One farm lost a machine shed and a grain bin. Homes on the farms suffered superficial roof damage. The tornado was only on the ground for a few minutes.
