   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

7. Unrated

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

A line of thunderstorms ahead of a strong cold front swept through north and central Georgia during the morning into the early afternoon. Despite only marginal instability, strong low and mid-level shear resulted in isolated reports of thunderstorm wind damage and a few brief tornadoes.

A National Weather Service survey team found that an EF1 tornado with maximum wind speeds of 95 MPH and a maximum path width of 250 yards touched down along Butler Road in southwest Heard County just east of Whitewater Creek. The tornado moved east northeast, crossing Victory Road uprooting and snapping around a dozen trees. The tornado then continued east northeast crossing just north of the intersection of Highway 219 and Victory Road. On Boggus Road just north of Noles Road, dozens of trees were snapped or uprooted. The highest wind speeds for this tornado were estimated here at 95 mph. The tornado then moved eastward before ending just north of the intersection of Bevis Road and Brush Creek Road.
